New Yorkers are not only wasting time while sitting in traffic, but they’re also losing money, according to the Texas A&M Transportation Institute’s annual study on urban mobility.

The report listed New York as one of the top 10 of the country’s most congested cities, losing an average of $1,281 a year per person.

It also said that the average driver spent close to 60 hours in traffic  each year.

“Congestion wastes a massive amount of time, fuel and money,” the study said.

New York ranks second in the country in wasting fuel. According to the report, each driver uses an excess of 28 gallons of fuel a year because of sitting in traffic.

The study suggested that drivers in the top 10 most congested cities add anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour and a half to their commute if they wish to get to their destination on time.
