It’s time to celebrate Halloween at the LIC Flea & Food.

This weekend, attend the Long Island City market in your Halloween costume to get you a discount of $2 off your first beer. And that’s not all. The market, located at the outdoor lot on the corner of Fifth Street and 46th Avenue, is also hosting special events for children with prizes.

On Saturday, Oct. 18, adults can have a photograph taken of their children in their Halloween costumes for a chance to win exciting prizes. The contest is open for a limited time of two hours, starting at 10 a.m. On Sunday, Oct. 19, the competition is open only for costumed pets. Visitors who get their costumed pet photographed will be eligible for a prize. This contest is only open for a limited time, between noon and 3 p.m.

The main attraction, however, is a special pumpkin patch featuring Halloween pumpkins straight from the farm.

The regular vendors selling food, antiques, art, fashion and collectibles will also be at the market.

LIC Flea & Food is open every Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will run through the end of the year. The LIC Flea Beer Garden is open during the hours of operation of the flea market.

Family fun at the LIC Flea

Good news – LIC Flea is the place to be for families.

On Sunday, September 22, 40 children participated in the LIC Flea’s Charming Child Contest. The children, ages 0 to 12, were photographed by professional photographer and LIC Flea vendor Kirill Poliakov.

Some parents heard about the contest through The Queens Courier, while others found out about it while making their usual weekend stop at LIC Flea.

“We came out of curiosity and I think she’s really cute,” said Carlos Juarez from Flushing, who brought his 17-month-year-old daughter Camila.

Johnnie Actión from Middle Village stopped by the photo shoot tent with his four-year-old son Taitgh, who was not nervous to face the camera.

“He loves to be out and about,” said Actión. “He’s a real city boy.”

And while most parents made the decision to bring their kids to get their photo taken, in five-year-old Vincent’s case, the chance of winning a Mercedes kids car beat out his usual shyness of the camera.

“He saw the car, it was one of the prizes he wanted to win,” said Anna Voisard, Vincent’s mom, whose 19-month-year-old daughter Lina also joined the contest. “He normally doesn’t have his photo taken, but if there’s a payoff, it’s different.”

A group of judges will select the winners from three age categories, 0 to3, 4 to 7, and 8 to 12.

The winners, announced and awarded on Sunday, September 29, will have a chance to be featured in The Queens Courier and LIC Courier Magazine, as well as many other prizes.

Prizes are donated by Silver Star Mercedes, LIC YMCA, LIC Kids, Rummage 718, Raising Astoria, Tiny You and LIC Flea Market.

With last week’s contest such a big success, LIC Flea will continue the contest this weekend with more chances to win LIC Flea bucks and other prizes.

Also, with Halloween just around the corner, LIC Flea is getting ready for the spooktacular holiday by bringing in its own pumpkin patch starting this weekend.

Thanks to Louis and Harold DeLucia, Home Grown — an entity of Flea vendor JL Farms – will be bringing the season to you!

With a variety of pumpkins – of all shapes and sizes – as well as hay bales and even corn stalks, Louis said “it’s an opportunity for families to save a trip and an opportunity for kids to have a pumpkin picking experience right in LIC.”

With all produce, fruit and flowers raised locally, in Monroe Township, NJ, Louis said Home Grown’s motto is “from our farm to your table.”

The pumpkin patch will be located at the LIC Flea, 5-25 46th Avenue through October.
