MTA bus fatally strikes man in Ridgewood

A man crossing a street in Ridgewood early Thursday morning was struck and killed by an MTA bus, according to authorities.

The bus was traveling northbound on Wyckoff Avenue around 5:10 a.m, at the Brooklyn-Queens border, when it made a right turn to head onto Palmetto Street, police said. It then hit the pedestrian with its rear-wheel as he was crossing Palmetto Street.

The victim, who has yet to be identified by police but is believed to be in his 40s, was taken to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said there have been no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.

A 46-year-old man is dead after a tractor-trailer struck him in Glendale Thursday morning, according to police.

The victim, Martin Srodin, was attempting to cross 80th Street, near The Shops at Atlas Park, at about 6:10 a.m., when he was hit, authorities said. According to a preliminary investigation, the vehicle struck Srodin with its rear tire as it was making a left turn from Cooper Avenue onto 80th Street.

Srodin, who lived less than 10 blocks from the accident site, was taken to Elmhurst Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The driver remained on the scene and the investigation is ongoing.

87-year-old pedestrian killed in Whitestone

An elderly woman was fatally struck while trying to cross the street just blocks from her Whitestone home, according to police.

The victim, 87-year-old Agatha Tsunis, was at Willets Point Boulevard near 17th Avenue at about 10:55 p.m. Tuesday when she was hit by a Volvo that was heading westbound on the boulevard, cops said.

Tsunis, was taken to New York Hospital Queens, where she was pronounced dead.

The Volvo’s driver remained on the scene and the investigation is ongoing, police said.

An alleged drunk driver has been charged after hitting and killing a pedestrian in Jackson Heights on Saturday, cops said.

The crash happened at about 4:30 a.m. on Roosevelt Avenue near 92nd Street, according to officials.

The victim, a man, who has yet to be identified by police, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, 42-year-old Romulo Mejia, of Bradenton, Florida, and his passenger, a 35-year-old woman, were taken to Elmhurst Hospital in stable condition, cops said.

Mejia has been charged with vehicular manslaughter with a previous conviction for DWI, criminally negligent homicide, aggravated unlicensed operator, and DWI with a previous conviction in the past 10 years, according to police.

SUV hits, kills pedestrian in Bellerose

An early morning accident in Bellerose Saturday left a pedestrian dead, police said.

A 2011 Ford Expedition struck an unidentified male about 6:50 a.m. near the Cross Island Parkway and Union Turnpike, according to the NYPD.

He was taken to North Shore-LIJ where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The 69-year-old driver remained on the scene and the NYPD’s Highway Patrol Collision Investigation Squad is investigating, police said.

SUV fatally strikes woman in Jamaica

A pedestrian is dead after an SUV hit he about a block from her Jamaica home Sunday night, police said.

Mosa Khatun, 38, was crossing the street about 9 p.m. at 169th Street and Highland Avenue, when a Nissan Pathfinder Armada struck her, according to the NYPD.

She was taken to Queens Hospital Center where she was pronounced dead.

There are no arrests and the investigation is ongoing, police said.

Hit-and-run accident kills pedestrian

A pedestrian was struck and killed in Flushing in a hit-and-run accident, according to police.

A 65-year-old man was crossing 45th Avenue at the intersection of 149th Street at approximately 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 8 when an SUV traveling southbound fatally hit him, police said.

The vehicle fled the scene, according to authorities.

The victim was taken to New York Hospital Queens, where he was pronounced dead.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.

 

Pedestrian struck and killed on Union Turnpike

A pedestrian crossing Union Turnpike was struck and killed just before 6 p.m. on Wednesday, February 29, according to authorities.

The victim was struck as he attempted to cross Union Turnpike in Oakland Gardens by a Volkswagen driven by a 24-year-old woman, police said.

EMS responded to the scene and took the 40-year-old victim to North Shore Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

According to crashstat.org, there have been 15 pedestrian injuries at the intersection of Union Turnpike and Springfield Boulevard since 1995, but no fatalities.

There is no criminality suspected at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
