Queens Library looks for new ways to battle budget cuts 

An army of strollers lined up outside the Broadway branch of the Queens Library to enlist the latest foot soldiers in the annual budget battle — toddlers and their caregivers. The borough library system is facing $26.7 million in proposed cuts under the Bloomberg Administration’s fiscal year 2013 budget. Tourist, cabby die in 3-car LIE horror

A Utah woman and a Queens cabdriver were killed and the woman’s grandson was seriously injured early yesterday in a three-car smashup on the Long Island Expressway. Suzanne Nicholson, 60, and her grandson Gabe Larsen, 11, were headed from Kennedy Airport to a Manhattan hotel at about 12:30 a.m. when their cabby, Mohamed Hussain, rear-ended a 1995 Porsche near 66th Street in Queens, cops said. Seek men in string of robberies

The NYPD is asking for the public’s help in locating and identifying the two suspects wanted in connection with a burglary pattern.

The first incident occurred on Thursday, August 14, when the suspects broke into the Checkers Restaurant located at 83-45 Parsons Boulevard and made off with an undetermined amount of cash.

Incident number two occurred on Wednesday, September 14 at the same restaurant. This time the suspects made off with a 2002 Ford van. The van has since been recovered.

Incident number three was on Sunday, September 25, when the suspects broke into an Associated market located at 155-15 Aguilar Avenue, where they were unsuccessful in taking any property or cash.

On Sunday, October 9, the suspects broke into the Sand Cafe located at 82-65 Parsons Boulevard, where they took cash from the register.

The most recent incident was on Tuesday, October 11 at Zolitas Bakery located at 79-34 Parsons Boulevard, where the perps took an undetermined amount of cash from a drawer.

Suspect one is described as a male black with a beard and mustache in his 20s, 5’9″-5’11″, approximately 160 pounds, wearing a light-colored shirt.

Suspect two is also a black male in his 20s, 5’9″-6’0″, approximately 160 pounds, wearing a light-colored nylon cap on his head, a light-colored, short-sleeved shirt. He has a tattoo on the right side of his neck.

Man allegedly impersonated cop, forced sex act

A man was arrested on October 13 by members of the Internal Affairs Bureau’s Police Impersonation Unit for criminal sex act and criminal impersonation of a police officer.

Cops say that on June 16, 2010, the victim was approached by Julio Olivares, 27, of Bayside, driving a gray SUV, who displayed a gold police-type shield and instructed the victim to enter his vehicle.

Olivares allegedly proceeded to drive off with the victim to a nearby parking garage where he forced the victim to perform a sex act on him.

Sex abuse suspect sought

The NYPD is looking for a man they say is wanted for sex abuse.

On Thursday, July 21, the female victim, 18, was grabbed from behind by the suspect who sexually abused her and then fled.

The following day, a 21-year-old woman was also grabbed from behind by the suspect who sexually abused her and then fled.

Police say the suspect is a male Hispanic between 25 and 30, with a thin build and black hair.
