The cost of gas continues its creep toward record highs as prices as the pump keep rising.

Gas has risen 12 cents in the past month in New York City to its current price of $4.163, according to AAA’s daily fuel gauge, 25 cents off the record high. Prices tend to peak during summer driving season, meaning gas costs will likely continue to rise.

The all-time high was $4.411 which was recorded in July of 2008.

Nationally, the average cost for a gallon of gas is $3.925, 19 cents away from the record high. The national average has not topped the $4 mark since 2008.
