Queens woman shot to death on her porch

A mother of two was gunned down in a hail of bullets outside her Queens home early yesterday after a vengeful woman she bumped into in a nearby nightclub called in a hit squad, law-enforcement sources said. Sandra Bajnath, 39, was with her husband, Anthony Tika, 38, and their friend Sean Seepaul, 26, at Food Hut Restaurant and Bar when Bajnath accidentally bumped into the unidentified woman at around 3:30 a.m., the sources said. Read More: New York Post

The NYPD is investigating an apparent Occupy Wall Street protester who made threats on Twitter Saturday about killing cops. “We won’t make a difference if we don’t kill a cop or 2,” someone with the Twitter handle Smackema1 posted at about 11:40 p.m. to Ustream, which showed footage of the Zuccotti Park protests in Manhattan. Neighbors yesterday said they weren’t shocked when the third floor of a Queens home suddenly gave way and turned into a giant slide — sending as many as 100 teens attending a 13-year-old’s birthday party tumbling down. Ex-con gets 12 years to life for siccing pit bull on cop chasing down Queens drug suspect

An ex-con with a decades-long rap sheet has been sentenced to 12 years to life in prison for siccing his pit bull on a cop chasing down a drug suspect in Queens two years ago. “Get him!,” Jeffrey Cofield ordered before releasing the mutt on Sgt. Mother who allegedly kidnapped infant daughter is in custody

After an eight hour search, police found and arrested the woman who allegedly kidnapped her baby from a Queens hospital. The baby was found safe. Police said Leila Rajnarie took her 8-month-old daughter, Nevita Jagdeo, from Queens General Hospital Pediatric Center at approximately noon on Wednesday, March 14 while the infant was there with her foster mother. Afghan Taliban suspends peace talks with US, Karzai pushes for early troop pullback

Afghanistan’s Taliban on Thursday suspended peace talks with the US, in the wake of the alleged massacre of 16 Afghan civilians by a US soldier and burning of copies of the Koran. “It was due to their [the US] alternating and ever-changing position that the Islamic Emirate was compelled to suspend all dialogue with the Americans,” the group said in a statement posted on its website. The insurgent group said dialogue was suspended until the US “shows willingness to fulfill their promises,” the statement said. Read More: New York Post

Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni resigns

Mike D’Antoni is saying goodbye to the Garden.

According to published reports, D’Antoni resigned as coach of the New York Knicks early Wednesday afternoon. His departure comes amid a turbulent six-game losing streak that has led to speculation about D’Antoni’s control over the locker room.

The Knicks (18-24) had reportedly begun to tune out their coach, and star forward Carmelo Anthony was allegedly uncomfortable in the offensive system being run by the team.

D’Antoni was 121-167 in three-and-a-half seasons in New York. He led the Knicks to their first playoff appearance in seven seasons last year, but failed to get out of the first round after being swept by the Boston Celtics.

Assistant Coach Mike Woodson is expected to take over for D’Antoni tonight against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Knicks Head Coach D’Antoni Resigns

Yahoo Sports and WFAN are reporting this afternoon that New York Knicks head coach Mike D’Antoni is resigning. The Knicks have had good runs this season, especially after the emergence of Jeremy Lin.However, the chemistry was interrupted when Carmelo Anthony returned from an injury, and the Knicks have now lost six in a row. D’Antoni was named Knicks coach before the 2008-09 season. The Knicks made the playoffs last season and were expected to make noise this season, but have under performed. Brooklyn Teacher’s Aide Pleads Not Guilty To Child Porn Charges

A Brooklyn teacher’s aide pled not guilty Wednesday to child molestation and pornography charges. Taleek Brooks, 41, was arraigned and remains in custody. He faces a dozen counts of sexual exploitation of a child, and possessing and distributing explicit videos. Brooks has worked at PS 243 in Crown Heights since 1995. FBI agents arrested him in January after allegedly uncovering the videos on his computer. Authorities also seized cell phones, digital cameras and other computer equipment. Read More: NY1

 

Brooklyn teacher gets an A for life-saving effort 

The three R’s now include resuscitation. A Brooklyn fourth-grade teacher interrupted her Wednesday lunch break to successfully perform CPR on a drug overdose victim in a restaurant bathroom. “She looked dead,” said Cassandra Byrd-Scolaro, 34, of Public School. 17. “She had no pulse. I immediately began giving her compressions.” The hero teacher had just ordered a chicken Caesar wrap to go from S & B Restaurant and was heading to use the bathroom when she noticed a commotion. Lindsay Lohan in alleged hit and run: report

Lindsay Lohan stands accused of a hit and run, in a report that seems straight out of 2007. According to the websites TMZ and Radar Online, Lohan was exiting the Sayers Club in Hollywood after midnight last night in a black Porsche. When paparazzi and patrons from the nearby Hookah Lounge reportedly got in the way of her car, Lohan attempted a U-turn, almost swiping the car of the Hookah Lounge’s manager. Sources say that the manager exited his car and approached Lohan’s vehicle. In the hubbub, sources claim that Lohan grazed the manager’s knee while peeling out of the parking lot.
