Police seek driver in crash killing Maspeth bar owner

Police are seeking the public’s help in finding the driver of a car that was involved in an accident that took the life of a Maspeth bar owner.

The accident occurred on at approximately 6:45 a.m. Saturday, October 15, when a 2002 Sebring traveling in the wrong direction on the Long Island Expressway service road at 58th Road struck a livery cab killing the passenger, George Gibbons.

The driver, Peter Rodriguez, 36, fled the scene following the crash.

Gibbons who owned Gibbons’ Home on 69th Street in Maspeth was pronounced dead on arrival at Elmhurst Hospital.

The Sebring’s passenger, Andre McKanney, 44, of Brooklyn was also taken to Elmhurst Hospital in stable condition. McKanney was arrested and charged with marijuana possession.

Couple Who Took 8 Children From Foster Care Face Jail

A Manhattan couple who slipped their eight children out the back of a foster care agency in Queens and absconded with them for a week pleaded guilty on Tuesday to second-degree custodial interference. A former Queens resident faces 20 years in prison for the choking death and dismemberment of his wife, whose parts were stuffed in a suitcase which was found by teenagers in a park almost a year later. Authorities have released a photo of 36-year-old Peter Rodriquez and are asking for the public’s help to help track him down.
