American Honda recently announced the recall of close to 200,000 vehicles, citing a possible problem with the Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA). 101,000 Honda Pilot vehicles, 60,000 Acura MDX vehicles and 21,000 Acura RL vehicles from 2005 and approximately 800 Acura MDX vehicles from 2006 were all recalled.

Honda said it has received several complaints about this problem, but that no injuries or crashes have been reported.

The electrical capacitor in the VSA unit, according to announcement from American Honda, may have been damaged during manufacturing, and could cause a small amount of brake force, without any input from the driver. To fix this problem, American Honda will install a new electrical sub-harness, free of charge.

Honda will also be inspecting 51,000 of the Honda Pilots recalled, to ensure that an electrical ground bolt in the VSA is properly tightened. Authorized dealers will torque the bolt if it is found to not be properly fastened, free of charge.

Mailed notifications of the recall will be sent to Honda customers in mid-April. Honda customers can also determine if their vehicles need repair by visiting recalls.honda.com and recalls.acura.com or by calling (800) 999-1009 for Honda owners or (800) 382-2238 for Acura owners, and selecting option 4.
