Renowned Indian spiritual leader Shri Gurudev will be hosting a free conference at Queens College on Sunday.

The conference is titled “Divya Darshan & Blessings” and will take place from 12:30 to 6 p.m. on Oct. 4 at the Colden Auditorium at the Queens College Center for Performing Arts at 153-49 Reeves Ave.

The guru will provide teachings on living life by speaking onstage at the beginning of the event to provide a spiritual discourse. Afterward, he will meet with attendees to provide blessings for each person.

“A little faith will lead you to heaven,” Shri Gurudev says in his teachings. “Full faith will bring heaven to you.”

The guru is one of the most influential Hindu leaders in India and many follow him around the world. He has visited over 170 countries to promote vegetarianism and a nonviolent way of life, among other spiritual ideas.

In the past, conferences hosted by the master have been attended by thousands of his followers, including a three-day event in which he received more than 2,300 followers during his last New York trip in 2014.

According to a website promoting his upcoming New York visit, Shri Gurudev was born in Delhi in 1941.

His parents gave him up for a spiritual life after a near-death experience as an infant, and in addition to becoming a recognized spiritual figure he also holds several degrees from prestigious Indian universities. These include a physics honors degree and an electrical engineering degree from the Indian Institute of Technology and master’s degrees in Sanskrit, Hindi and astrology.

His personal history attributes mystical powers to him, such as the power to levitate when meditating. During stints working in the “haunts of man,” he has been an engineer at a rubber factory and an Australian shipping boat.

CBS announced the new reality series DOGS IN THE CITY, starring New York City dog guru Justin Silver, a master at resolving issues between canines and their owners – no matter whose behavior is at fault. The series will premiere Wednesday, May 30 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

In Manhattan, Justin Silver is known as the “go-to guy” for all things dog-related. He has a creative and instinctive ability to connect with his canine customers while solving dilemmas for their two-legged masters. In each episode, he meets with clients who present a range of relationship problems, lifestyle changes or domestic issues – from a couple looking to move in together, but she’s terrified of his golden retriever, to a recently divorced couple whose dog is having a rough time adjusting to joint custody. Justin gets as imaginative as necessary to reach a satisfying resolution, often finding that the owners can be a special breed themselves.

“Dogs are at the center of the story here, but this is a show that reveals as much about human nature as man’s best friend,” said Executive Producer Carol Mendelsohn. “Dogs are often a lightning rod for their owners’ emotions and dysfunction at home. Justin has an amazing gift to break down these complex issues with incredible heart, humor and, sometimes, much-needed candor.”

Justin Silver has been taking care of dogs and their owners for more than a decade. A dog trainer, behaviorist and owner of a pet care company, Silver is also a comedian and founder of Funny for Fido, a nonprofit that raises money for homeless animals by producing a yearly stand-up comedy event. Silver firmly believes that every dog can be trained to be a wonderful companion by working on issues calmly and confidently with both his four- and two-legged clients.

Julie Weitz, Carol Mendelsohn, Jen O’Connell and Nick Emmerson are executive producers. Gerry Greengrass serves as co-executive producer. DOGS IN THE CITY is produced by CBS’s Raquel Productions Inc. in association with Shed Media US Inc. and Carol Mendelsohn Productions.
