Three people killed, two injured in Halloween night shootings in Queens, Brooklyn

Three people died and two people were injured within a five-hour period during Halloween shootings across Queens and Brooklyn, according to police.

The two non-fatal incidents occurred in the Jamaica and Rockaway Park sections of Queens, said cops.

Around 7 p.m. on 148th Street near 88th Avenue an unidentified suspect exited his vehicle wearing a mask and shot a man in his 20s multiple times, said police. The suspect then fled northbound on 148th Street.

The victim was taken to Jamaica Hospital in critical condition.

An hour later, an 18-year-old man was shot in the right leg at Beach Channel Drive near Beach 141st Street, said police.

He was taken to Jamaica Hospital and is expected to survive.

Cops said there are no arrests at this time in both Queens shooting incidents.

In Brooklyn the violence was deadly, with three men losing their lives, according to police.

Shawn Rhodes, 46, was shot multiple times at the Linden Houses in East New York around 7: 30 p.m.

Three hours later, Anthony Seaberry, 19, was fatally shot in East Flatbush.

Around 11:30 p.m., 37 year-old Kevin Thompson died after he was shot in the neck in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn.

Officer from Queens precinct kills child, boyfriend in apparent murder-suicide

An off-duty police officer who was recently assigned to a Queens precinct shot her boyfriend and their one-year-old son before killing herself at their home in Brooklyn, according to published reports.

The officer, identified as Rosette M. Samuel, 43, had reportedly become part of the police force in September 2000 and was currently working at the 108th Precinct, which covers Long Island City, Sunnyside and Hunters Point.

According to reports, the body of Samuel’s boyfriend was found lying in the front hallway of the home, while Samuel and her child were found face up on a bed in a bedroom inside the family’s first- floor apartment home located on East 56th  Street in East Flatbush.

Samuel’s 19-year-old son from a previous relationship escaped through a bedroom window from the house  after hearing gunshots and called 911 at around 8:30 a.m., reported the New York Times.

According to the Daily News, cops did not find a suicide note at the scene.

One construction worker dead, 2 others injured in Harlem building collapse

A worker was crushed to death this morning and two others were injured after a building collapsed in Harlem, authorities said. The construction workers were demolishing the one-story building at 604-606 West 131 Street near Broadway at 7:51 a.m. when the accident occurred, police said. The building, which is owned by Columbia University, is part of a plan on the part of the Ivy League school to expand across a section of upper Manhattan. Read More: New York Post

 

72-year-old man charged with killing neighbor in Brooklyn

Police arrested a 72-year-old Brooklyn man and charged him with killing his neighbor in East Flatbush last night. Cops say Ronald Black shot and killed Cornell Heslop, 43, in the basement of the East 93rd Street home where the two men rented separate rooms, around 10:15 p.m., last night. Heslop was hit in the chest and pronounced dead at Brookdale Hospital. Black walked into the 67th precinct around 12:30 a.m. to claim he had been the victim of a robbery, sources said. Appeals Court Upholds City’s Plan To Expand Taxi Service

A federal appeals court has given the city a green light to roll ahead with it’s taxi reform plan despite objections from advocates for the disabled. They’re upset 2,000 new taxi medallions are about to be given out to a fleet that is not in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The Taxi and Limousine Commission was ordered to produce a detailed plan on how to remedy the problem. Read More: NY1

 

Rev. Sharpton To Lead Rally In Florida Over Teen’s Shooting

The Reverend Al Sharpton is scheduled to lead a rally in Sanford, Florida today calling for an arrest in the killing of an unarmed teen. He’s traveling with former Governor David Paterson. After the rally, Sharpton will head to Alabama, where his mother passed away this morning. Hundreds gathered yesterday for a rally in Union Square in memory of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. Martin was shot and killed in an Orlando suburb last month by a neighborhood watch captain. George Zimmerman says he shot the teen in self defense after a confrontation. Read More: NY1
