CITY COUNCIL

The New York City Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO endorsed another round of City Council candidates, all of whom for Queens are running for relection:

City Council District 20: Peter Koo
City Council District 23: Mark Weprin
City Council District 25: Daniel Dromm
City Council District 26: Jimmy Van Bramer

BOROUGH PRESIDENT

Former Public Advocate and 2001 Democratic mayoral candidate Mark Green endorsed former Deputy Borough President Barry Grodenchik.

The League of Humane Voters of New York City and New York State endorsed State Senator Tony Avella.

New York City Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO endorsed several Queens candidates for City Council districts:

INCUMBENTS

City Council District 21: Julissa Ferreras
City Council District 29: Karen Koslowitz
City Council District 30: Elizabeth Crowley
City Council District 31: Donovan Richards

OPEN SEATS

City Council District 22: Costa Constantinides
City Council District 24: Rory Lancman
City Council District 27: Daneek Miller

Peter Tu, executive director of Flushing Chinese Business Association, personally endorsed Austin Shafran for District 19.

BOROUGH PRESIDENT

The National Organization for Women Political Action Committee (NOW PAC) endorsed State Senator Jose Peralta.

The Mason Tenders District Council of Greater New York and Long Island endorsed former Councilmember and former Assemblymember Melinda Katz.

Endorsements rolling in for city candidates

The following candidates have received backings . . .

New York City Mayor

Former Councilmember Sal Albanese was endorsed by the Transport Workers Union Local 101 in the Democratic mayoral primary, while his opponent City Council Speaker Christine Quinn landed support from the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union.

New York City Comptroller

Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer gained the backing of Teamsters Joint Council 16.

City Council District 19

Republican incumbent Dan Halloran bagged an endorsement from the NYPD Captains Endowment Association. Austin Shafran, one of four candidates in the race’s Democratic primary, rolled out boosts from UFCW Local 1500.

City Council District 22

Costa Constantinides got a leg up from Communications Workers of America Local 1180.
