Bicyclist struck by car in Corona

A bicyclist was rushed to the hospital Thursday afternoon after being struck by a car in Corona, according to police.

The 38-year-old man was hit at about 1:34 p.m. at the intersection of 114th Street and 34th Avenue near the ramp to the Grand Central Parkway, authorities said.

He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital and is listed in critical yet stable condition.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and the accident is still under investigation.


Bicyclist dies after crashing into truck in Far Rockaway

A bicyclist was killed Thursday evening after he struck the side view mirror of a U-Haul truck in Far Rockaway, authorities said.

The 61-year-old bike rider was traveling on Bayport Place, in the opposite direction of the one-way street, about 7:20 p.m. when he made a right turn onto Augustina Avenue and struck the driver’s side mirror of a Ford U-Haul truck that was at a stop sign.

EMS transported the victims, whose was pending family notification, to St. John’s Episcopal Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The vehicle remained on the scene. There have been no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.


Bicyclist killed in East Elmhurst hit-and-run

A man was killed in East Elmhurst Wednesday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene, police said.

At about 2:30 p.m., the victim who was riding his bicycle was hit at 30th Avenue and 92nd Street, according to the NYPD. The driver fled the scene.

The bicyclist was taken to Elmhurst Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police withheld the victim’s identity pending family notification.


Teen bicyclist fatally struck by car at Queens Plaza

A Long Island City teenager died this week after being struck by a car while riding his bicycle through Queens Plaza last month, police announced on Friday.

Kevin Lopez, 18, of 10th Street died Wednesday of injuries he sustained in the accident that occurred on the afternoon of July 28 along Queens Plaza North and 29th Street.

At about 2:14 p.m. that day, authorities said, Lopez was riding his bicycle northbound on 29th Street in a designated bike lane when he was struck by a 2010 Mercedes-Benz 550, driven by a 35-year-old man, traveling westbound on Queens Plaza North.

Police said the impact threw Lopez from his bike onto the hood of the car. Lopez struck the windshield of the Mercedes-Benz before finally landing on the pavement.

Officers from the 108th Precinct and EMS units rushed to the scene and found Lopez with severe head trauma. Paramedics brought him to Cornell Medical Center, where he died on Wednesday.

Neither the driver nor a 39-year-old male passenger inside the Mercedes-Benz were injured.

No charges have been filed, and an investigation is ongoing.


Cops looking for butt-slapping bicyclist in LIC

Police have released the sketch of a bicyclist who they say slapped a woman’s behind as she walked down a Long Island City street last month.

The incident happened at about 4 p.m. on April 22 along Jackson Avenue near 46th Avenue, authorities said.

According to police, while on his bike, the suspect rode up behind the woman and slapped her on the buttocks before fleeing.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male who is about 35 years old and weighs 140 pounds. He was last seen wearing a red baseball cap, a red waist-length jacket and blue jeans.

Enjoy free snacks as you bike to work in LIC Wednesday morning

If you are commuting to work and find yourself near the Queensboro Bridge Wednesday morning, make sure to stop and get some free snacks.

In honor of Bike to Work month, for the next two Wednesdays advocacy group Transportation Alternatives will be hosting Biker Commuter Stations at locations throughout the city.

For this week, one of the five stations is in Long Island City at Crescent Street and Queens Plaza North.

From 7 to 10 a.m. bicyclists will be able to enjoy free coffee from Brooklyn Roasting Company, free breakfast, including KIND snacks, and free gifts just for stopping by.

Members of Transportation Alternatives will also be able to receive a free water bottle from REI if they show their membership card. The bottle includes different items including a Bike Home From Work Party wristband for the May 29 party in Dumbo, Brooklyn.



Elderly bicyclist struck in South Ozone Park hit-and-run

Police are looking for the driver who hit an 88-year-old bicyclist in South Ozone Park Thursday afternoon.

The victim was riding his bike on 131st Street near Rockaway Boulevard at about 1 p.m. when a blue sedan struck him, authorities said. The vehicle then fled.

The bicyclist was taken to Jamaica Hospital in critical condition.


Private sanitation truck hits and kills bicyclist in LIC

A private sanitation truck fatally struck a man as he was riding his bicycle in Long Island City Saturday night, police said.

The truck was traveling northbound on Vernon Boulevard about 7:15 p.m. when it made a right turn onto 41st Avenue and hit the bicyclist, police said.

EMS pronounced the bicyclist, 36-year-old Hoyt Jacobs, of Brooklyn, dead at the scene.

The driver remained at the site of the incident. The investigation is ongoing.



Private ambulette fatally strikes bicyclist in Flushing

A man riding his bike in Flushing was killed when he was hit by a private ambulette Wednesday morning, according to police.

As the ambulette was driving southbound on Parsons Boulevard at about 9:50 a.m., it struck the bicyclist as he made a left turn onto 37th Avenue from the opposite direction of the boulevard, cops said.

The bicyclist, a man in his 60s who has yet to be identified by police, was taken to New York Hospital Queens by EMS, where he was pronounced dead.

The NYPD’s Highway District Collision Investigation Squad is investigating.



Bicyclist struck and killed near Citi Field

A bicyclist was fatally hit by a minivan near Citi Field Tuesday afternoon, cops said.

The victim, who has yet to be identified by police, was riding his bike westbound on Roosevelt Avenue around 126th Street at about 12:50 p.m. when he was struck by a Mercury Villager that was driving in the same direction, officials said.

The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the driver remained at the scene of the accident and the NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad is investigating.


Driver arrested after bicyclist hit, killed in Cambria Heights

A driver was arrested after fatally striking a 53-year-old man while he was riding his bike in Cambria Heights Friday morning, cops said.

The victim, William Faison, was traveling southbound down 228th Street at about 8:55 a.m. when he was struck by a Kia sedan as it was driving westbound on 120th Avenue, officials said.

Faison was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the sedan’s driver, Tiffany Delcia Moore, 26, was charged with aggravated unlicensed operator.
