Name: Brian Browne

Company: St. John’s University

Title: Assistant Vice President, Government Relations

1. What do you love about your job and why?

My personal story is like that of so many other current students and alumni. My parents were immigrants with little formal education, yet at St. John’s they found a place where their own children would receive a quality and affordable education and where students of all different backgrounds are prepared to make a real difference in the world. I get to combine my passion for government and politics with the enduring mission of the University.

2. What are your business goals over the next five years?

I want to continue to work to protect and increase government support of critical student financial aid programs that help to provide access and opportunity to college students. I hope to raise lasting awareness of the importance of young voters being involved and engaged in the political process. I want to highlight to our elected officials the innovative learning and service programs taking place at St. John’s and the importance of investing in higher education.

3. How do you give back to the community?

I work to mentor students at St. John’s to get them involved and engaged in local government and politics. I volunteer and help raise awareness and resources for the St. John’s Bread and Life Program, one of the largest emergency food providers in NYC. I coach CYO Basketball and Little League Baseball. I am an active member St. Thomas the Apostle Church (West Hempstead) serving on the Pastoral Council, Development Committee and School Parents Club.
