Jessie Greco Pessolano passed away on January 11. She was 86 years old.
Beloved wife of the late Angelo. Dear mother of Mary Ann and Joseph Mattone. Loving grandmother of Michael Angelo and Adelle, great-grandmother of Michael Angelo Jr., Alexander and Adela Tabrizi and of the loving extended children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the Mattone family.
Beloved sister of the late Joseph, Danny, Carmine and Sam Greco.
“Jessie was a woman of deep faith,” said Reverend Donald J. Harrington, C.M., President of St. John’s University. “She was a model of love and commitment to her family and friends and will be truly missed. It was a privilege to know this special lady.”
Her son-in-law, Joseph Mattone, echoed the sentiment.
“She was strong; this inner strength she derived from her faith,” he said. “Jessie prayed her Novena and Rosary all the time. Even when she worked they would be at her desk.
“Jessie has finished the long road,” he continued. “She leaves more than one daughter, one grandson and three great-grandchildren grieving her loss, she leaves 27 great-grandchildren who called her grandma Jessie and a big ‘Sonny Boy,’ and also many friends. She left a legacy of love and compassion.”
Arrangements were handled by the Frederick Funeral Home in Flushing. A Mass of Christian burial was held at St. Thomas More Church on the campus of St. John’s University, with more than 20 priests concelebrating the Mass. The Carmelite Sisters of Ozanam Hall Nursing Home were also well represented at the funeral. Entombment was at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Flushing.
