Councilmember Hiram Monserrate’s East Elmhurst office was broken into and vandalized last night, the councilmember’s office has said.
While files and documents were ransacked, the only items missing, according to Monserrate’s office, are a personal laptop and stationery.
The councilmember’s staff, suspecting the break-in was politically motivated, are warning the public to look out for counterfeit mailings claiming to come from Monserrate.
The office, condemning “dirty tricks” in the political arena, is urging the public to notify them of any suspicious mailings.
