Amy’s Bread is moving its baking facilities and business offices from Manhattan to Long Island City, the company said on its website.
The bakery has been located in Chelsea Market for the past 16 years, and is moving because it needs more space. There will still be a retail location at the food market, where in addition to bread, sandwiches, salads and various baked goods are sold. It will be expanded to 2,000 square feet and include a baking demo kitchen.
Its Hell’s Kitchen location, where its sweets are made, will also be remodeled and expanded when that baking facility relocates to Long Island City.
The move will be the first time Amy’s Bread, which has a third location in the West Village, ventures outside of Manhattan.
“As a Manhattan fixture, Amy’s Bread felt strongly about staying in New York City, and with the burgeoning ‘Flour District’ in Long Island City, the company decided to take its rightful place among a roster of leavening luminaries that include Le Pain Quotidien, Eleni’s, and Pain D’Avignon, and longtime LIC bakeries Tom Cat and BR Guest,” the company said in a statement on its website.
