Having been born, bred and married in Brooklyn, I was thrilled to have come “home” when I bought with Josh, my son, the 50- and 75-year-old Home Reporter and Brooklyn Spectator newspapers. It’s said you can take the girl out of Brooklyn but not Brooklyn out of the girl. Well, that’s me and this week we [...]

What an extraordinary week. I got to kiss and hug the mayor, the governor, the police commissioner, the bishop, the former first lady, two bank presidents, multiple friends, and the best of the best, Joe and MaryAnn Mattone. It was a wondrous week of galas and events. I’m glad I’m awake enough to write this [...]

When the Queens Museum of Art, on whose board I sit, asked to honor me, I didn’t know I would meet two extraordinary people who were feted alongside of me. Don and his beautiful wife Shelley Rubin are philanthropists who give generously to the Queens Museum and Socrates Sculpture Park and created a gem of [...]

It was a gloriously beautiful weekend with weather that was picture perfect. It began for me on Friday when old friend Rudy Auslander took me on a tour of a school that has been his passion for decades. Then on Saturday I went with my cousin Marcia to the Metropolitan Opera and had the great [...]

It’s been decades since I visited The Milleridge Inn in Jericho, just off Route 106, and it’s only minutes from my home. When my daughter Samantha’s father-in-law began a job there as a manager and suggested to the owners that they meet with me, my fun began! What a meeting it was! What a Long [...]

It was a day that will live on in infamy for generations to come. Is there anyone who doesn’t remember where they were that bright early morning of September 11, 2001? That day, as I always do, I was watching the TV news during my daily workout. I saw the report, then the photos, of [...]

A week of prayers, play and fun
A week of prayers, play and fun

It has been a tradition in my family for generations to celebrate the Jewish New Year high holidays together, gathering for dinners and prayers in the synagogue. For a decade Stu, my late husband, and I sat together sharing the beautiful prayers and music that are unique to Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. But entering [...]

While relishing my eight-day vacation, I finally got to read Lillian Hellman’s book, Scoundrel Time, about her terrorized time of the McCarthy hearings. I was moved by her closing words about her horrendous experience in a life filled with extraordinary achievement as an award-winning  playwright. She wrote, “as I  finish writing about the unpleasant part [...]

When my daughter and grandson said at the beach “this is the most perfect day of my life,” I knew I had made the right choice for a family getaway. Since I celebrated a “significant” birthday, I decided months ago to take my children on a trip together. It’s not easy planning for the needs [...]

It’s wonderful to laugh your heart out and I did unexpectedly Saturday night at a fundraiser for breast cancer, the Ellen Hermanson Pink Apron Event, organized by Julie Ratner at Southampton Hospital. I had been invited by my “WOW” girlfriend MaryAnn Mattone and joined by our friends Peter Meyer, his wife Denise Arbesu, Vinny Riso [...]
