Last week I had dinner with “Angels” at the Citi Field celebration of the many people who have generously donated $8 million to enable thousands of children to attend parochial schools in Queens and Brooklyn. An Angel helps subsidize the cost of a student’s Catholic grammar school education by providing tuition assistance of $1,500 a [...]

The group I traveled with on Safari in Africa supports several charitable groups on the continent. I had the privilege of visiting two of them. What a thrill it was to see the power of giving. While in Cape Town, my Micato Safaris guide Alan Peterson took me and my traveling companion to visit Rosie, [...]

Reluctantly, I said goodbye to Singita Lodge and my safari experience and made my way to Zambia but the little plane we were to take to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport was grounded because of the rain. We were rerouted to a van for a two hour drive through the countryside. It turned out to be [...]

An extraordinarily rare opportunity was mine the day I saw two Cheetah cubs and their mother grazing, then drinking from the watering hole just yards from my Land Rover. In the distance a herd of Impala and Wildebeest were feeding on a flat plane. The mother Cheetah began stalking the herd for an hour. I waited patiently in the vehicle, watching as the feeding frenzy was about [...]

It was the first time I planned a trip on my own to travel by myself to a distant land. But Stu and I had talked about going on a safari in South Africa and visiting Victoria Falls in Zambia. How he would have loved it! Choosing Micato Safaris as my tour guide was the [...]

As my plane landed after 21 hours of travel and I stepped onto South African land, my guide was waiting to greet me with a sign bearing my name. What a relief to be there and to see a welcoming face. So began my adventure that will take me to a few days in Cape [...]

Taking the journey to South Africa alone surprised many of my friends and family. But I wanted to take the trip that my husband Stu had planned for years but had been too ill to take. So I decided to take it for him. Just planning the trip was a chore. Stu used to take [...]

How can I write about last week without reflecting on the snow. It may have been fun for my grandkids and all the kids that were off from school, but it was devastating for endless numbers of businesses. We had to postpone our major networking event, “Rising Stars” — the first time we’ve ever postponed [...]

When I was raising my four children and working at the same time, I always worried about what they were doing after school. Guilt was part of my everyday. But when they were engaged in after school programs I knew they were safe and I could relax. So when I was invited to a fund [...]

How lucky for me that my great nephew, Jack Yunis, celebrated his Bar Mitzvah in Miami this past weekend, when back home in New York the snow and cold continued. I was happy to leave the city I love for a few days to warm my soul and body at this bittersweet celebration that my [...]
