A Call For Art

Nicholai Khan was born in Trinidad & Tobago. As a young boy, he moved to Queens, New York where he was raised and still resides.  His passion for art has grown stronger in him since childhood. He currently paints and illustrates full-time while growing his reputation in New York’s art scene. He has written and illustrated a children’s book entitled “Nicho the Tiger” and has displayed his paintings at galleries, such as The National Arts Club in Gramercy and Five Pointz in Long Island City. He is currently represented by Agora Gallery in Chelsea, also known as the center of the art world. In his spare time, he visits schools and youth programs to share his life experiences and love of art.  He also volunteers at the Queens Public Library with Gail Giordano, Assistant District Attorney of Queens, to help troubled teens become productive members of society through developing their creative expression.

As a child from the moment I knew it existed, I wanted my art to be well known in the New York City art scene. On Thursday, April 26th of last week, I was one giant step closer to my dream. Much to my surprise, my debut at Agora Gallery in the “Symphony of Color” [...]

A wonderful artist I know named Linda Murid has been asking me to attend a workshop at the National Art League in Douglaston. Due to my extremely consistent blog entries , I was unable to attend a 1.5 hour meeting on a Friday night until last week. It seems I should have gone to these [...]

A Call For Art Nicholai Khan 2/29/2012 at 11:59AM

One of the most fulfilling things I am able to do is volunteer at the Queens Public Library to help teach art to troubled youth. The program I work with is called “The Second Chance” founded by DA Gail Giordano. Many of these young adults ended up in this program for committing crimes, such as [...]

I apologize for the brief pause, but I was away at Art Basel in Miami earlier this month. The purpose of my trip was to make some connections, feel the vibe of a huge arena of art, and to be inspired.   Never before have I seen something like the magnitude of Art Basel. Imagine [...]

The State of College Point / Whitestone Development
A Call For Art Stephen R. Preuss 12/08/2011 at 10:48AM

The College Point and Whitestone areas saw a slight uptick from the 13 commercial property sales last year.  The fact is demand is significant especially with industrial properties which are the most abundant property type in the College Point area. Many users who are getting priced out of areas like Long IslandCityand Williamsburghave fled eastward [...]

A Call For Art Nicholai Khan 11/28/2011 at 9:15AM

As a long standing resident and artist of Queens, I am very proud to support the famous graffiti hub 5Pointz. I have had the opportunity to create more than one piece on the walls of this historic monument. The freedom of painting a vast canvas with the natural light of the sun and the wind [...]

Art in Queens
A Call For Art Nicholai Khan 11/15/2011 at 10:26AM

Art in Queens has had a slow and steady growth. A good example of this is MoMA (The Museum of Modern Art) opening its PS1 branch in Long Island City in the summer of 2002. It seemed to spark a new energy in this area. Boutique type galleries with tremendous personalities and wide ranges of [...]

What would a world without art look like?
A Call For Art Nicholai Khan 11/09/2011 at 2:43PM

What would a world without art look like? Imagine walking down the street and not having interesting t-shirt logos to read.  Imagine Manhattan without the music and theater of Broadway shows. Imagine Brooklyn without galleries coloring the Dumbo District. Imagine if children were not being taught how to draw, sing, or dance in school. Imagine [...]
