Yes, I’m serious. Now is a great time to be an entrepreneur in America – never mind the fledgling economy, the big box stores, or the parkways that have eliminated the downtowns of old where your grandparent’s businesses flourished.
In tough times like these, it can be easy to forget the excitement that got you in business in the first place. My friends say I have enough enthusiasm about business for everyone – and yes, that may be true – but you don’t get off that easy… Here are a few reasons why you should be as excited as I am.
- Jobs are slowly coming back, the unemployment rate is slowing ticking down and small business creation is surging. The recent sky-high unemployment rates and rashes of layoffs left many scrambling and many people decided that now, more than ever, is the time to try to make a business of doing what you love. After all, you can’t lose anything if you have nothing to lose, right?
- The government has taken steps to put small business back at the helm of the economy. The Startup America Act and the new legislation just passed by Congress making it easier for startups to raise capital are making great strides in providing investment funding to small businesses. Make sure to also check in with your local Small Business Administration office to see what tools and resources they offer your small business.
- Technology on all levels can help propel your business forward. Many businesses find they can cut a lot of overhead just by making their business an online entity – get inspired by companies like Facebook, which was launched by a sophomore college student in his dorm. In addition, companies are now able to get leads, referrals, and partners not only by attending in-person networking events but by networking through Social Media. Consumers are conversing with manufacturers, manufacturers are responding, and people are developing brand-identity/loyalty in ways we never could have dreamed about. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and more are all free ways to market and brand your business. Take advantage of these easily managed tools and use them to the benefit of your business.
So what are you waiting for? Take a few minutes to remember all the reasons you started your own business and let your renewed enthusiasm carry your business to new heights.
