On Saturday, February 25th, the beloved family friend and companion of a local Whitestone family went missing. Munson, a 14 month old golden retriever was last seen on 24th Road and Francis Lewis Boulevard in the Whitestone section of Queens at approximately 5:30am.
That evening at about 11:00pm, I received a facebook message from my friend Dorian asking me to post the information about Munson on the Welcome To Whitestone facebook page. Within an hour of posting a copy of the “lost dog” flyer that I received, over 60 people had copied the link onto their own facebook pages to help spread the word.
By Monday, February 27th, not only was there “lost dog” flyers posted on almost every street pole in Northeast Queens, there was now a facebook page called “Lost Golden Retriever Munson” with almost 200 active facebook users hoping to find Munson!
As a civic leader whose main objective is to get the community involved, I cannot express how proud I am of everyone who has reached out and offered to lend a hand in finding this beautiful dog!
If you would like to get involved with the search, volunteers will be gathering at Bowne Park on 155th Street between 29th and 33rd Avenue on Saturday, March 3rd at 9:30am. Anyone who shows up will be given flyers to post up throughout the neighborhood.
Let’s hope we find Munson and get him home safely!
