Praise for NYPD officer Nelson Vergara

NYPD officer Nelson Vergara, who served two tours of duty in Iraq as a Marine, was attacked with a bottle and shot twice in the Bronx by punks. He responded with true guts and bravery and did battle and won though wounded. I have to agree with Mayor Mike Bloomberg that we need to get guns off the street and that the federal government needs to do more. The stop and frisk policy is one of a number of tools that NYPD has to accomplish this task. NYPD officers like Nelson Vergara, who risk their lives everyday trying to protect us and keeping us safe, must be applauded. They deserve our prayers and our praise. Now for that I salute the NYPD for turning out fine officers like Nelson Vergara who go above and beyond the call of duty to get guns and these evil doers off the street.
