One More Small Signing To Report!

Hello again fans, here we go one more time for a little Mets blog action! Just in case you guys missed yesterday’s minor Mets news, know that the club signed outfielder Frank Catalanotto to a minor league deal. He joins recent signee Josh Fogg in that department.

I like this signing, he provides nice depth in the outfield, and though his hitting isn’t what it used to be, he can still provide some quality surely in a pinch hitter role. I know he’s on a minor league deal, but I would SO rather see him on the 25 man roster out of spring training rather than Gary Matthews Jr. The outfield portion of our roster looks like it’s going to be crowded for most of the season with Beltran, Bay, Francoeur, Pagan, and Matthews all likely to break camp on the big league roster. It’s a shame really, because I feel Catalanotto is the superior hitter, fielder, and an overall better clubhouse guy than Matthews is, but with the massive contract to which Matthews is signed to – which thankfully will be picked up largely by the Angels – I’m sure there’s little to no chance he ever sees the AAA level that he belongs at. Shame that rosters nowadays are forced to be constructed due to financial constraints rather than talent. It really is a shame. But all in all, nice pickup for the Mets. Now how about that rotation…

What do you guys think? Like it, hate it, indifference? Would you rather see Catalanotto on the big league roster come April, as opposed to Gary Matthews Jr.? God, I still can’t wrap my mind around whatever it was Omar saw in that trade… Comment below, and as always, thanks for stopping by guys!
