We have just lost Neil Armstrong, the first man to step on the moon who said, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” I had seen Armstrong and his crew of Apollo 11 on TV that day, July 20,1969, and I was in awe of that historical moment. It was a proud moment in history for all of America and planet Earth. Armstrong, Michael Collins and Buzz Aldrin had gone where no men had gone before and returned to tell about it. It was an achievement that demostrated man’s pioneering spirit and willingness to face the difficult challenges of space exploration. I have a vision of colonies on the Moon and Mars some day but this would not be possible if it was not for the achievements of men like Armstrong who had the right stuff. Neal Armstrong may you rest in peace and may we continue to go where no man has gone before.
