More PR Confusion? Here We Go Again…

Here is a little exercise I’d like you to do for me. Imagine you’re reading a story regarding a baseball player getting injured. However in this particular story, the name of the player isn’t revealed. It’s blurred out, and you don’t know the identity of the player, you just know that he’s suffering from some sort of ailment. Now imagine that a few days later you read another story regarding the same player – still with his identity a mystery – and in this story the player is denying the original injury, claiming he never suffered from it, and instead has something totally different. Now knowing all of this, who would you suspect that player to be?

The answer to that question would be correct if you named any player currently found on the Mets roster. The reason? They absolutely suck at making a flawless announcement of something substantial through PR. After this latest folly, I’m convinced they’re 100% capable of doing this. In case you missed anything my friends, know that Jose Reyes told Enrique Rojas of ESPN.com that the people who examined him in New York said that there’s nothing wrong with his thyroid. All they found was a little bit of inflammation in his throat. However Omar Minaya said today that the team’s medical staff and himself are all in agreement that Reyes does have elevated thyroid levels.

All right you know what, whatever. Once again no one in the organization really knows what’s going on, it’s just something I’ve come to expect from the team. That along with collapses and injuries. Omar says one thing, Jose says another. The team’s doctors say one thing, the specialists in New York say something else. What. Ever. This team is yet again caught up in one of those idiotic PR situations, why bother even taking stabs at what Reyes’ problem really is. The only thing I’m thinking about is when he’ll return to Port St. Lucie and get into a damn game already. The days before Opening Day are flying by, and Reyes still hasn’t appeared in a single Grapefruit League game. At this rate, he won’t make his debut until Opening Day itself, and that won’t be beneficial for anyone. Ballplayers need these practice games to get rid of all that rust. Just ask Oliver Perez and Johan Santana after their last outings here in spring trainign.

Whatever is ailing Reyes, throat, thyroid whatever…, neither is particually serious enough where he can’t be in Florida right now with his teamates. Why is he still in New York? I mean, for both of the ailments I just listed, prescribed medication can knock handle either one with ease. Why is he still seeking shelter here in the Big Apple? I cannot express how dire it is that he gets some serious work down in Florida. If Reyes gets off to a slow start during the regular season due to him being rusty from not playing enough, things will not be good. Let’s face it, right now we’re maybe good for a 3rd place finish looking at how we’re built. We need all the wins we can get, and having a rusty Jose Reyes will not improve out record whatsoever.

I have no idea what’s ailing him, but I hope it’s nothing more serious than throat inflammation or a thyroid problem. Like I said before, there’s no point in guessing what his matter is, who knows if we even know all the details? Who knows if Reyes and Minaya are lying to us through the media to coverup a more serious injury. Whatever is ailing Reyes, the doctors need to get him healthy as soon as they possibly can. Every day he’s not suited up and on the field down in Florida, is another day wasted for him to shake off the immense amount of rust he’s accumulated from not playing since May. Come on already guys, our season is depending on it.

What do you guys think? Bothered by Reyes’ extended New York stay, or do you guys feel everything will be just fine once April rolls around? And what do you guys have to say about yet another confusing episode regarding the Mets being unable to get stories straight through the media? I personally can’t take it anymore. Anyway, comment below, and as always my dearest friends, thanks for stopping by to read!
