Yikes! What’s wrong with the Mets, does the defensive baseball chunk of the brain suddenly turn off for our infielders when they play against the Yankees? After the first Subway Series game two weeks ago, coupled with tonight’s embarrassment, I think this is the only sensible explanation. What gives guys? *Sighs* Well friends, as you know, the Mets were creamed by the Bombers Friday evening 9-1, though they did however remain in 2nd place a slim half game behind Philadelphia due to the Phillies 3rd straight loss. Man… they’re playing arctic-cold baseball…I love it! But back to tonight’s game, 3 infield errors all in the 2nd inning opened the door for the Yankees to score 4 runs, 2 earned off of Mike Pelfrey. They later added 5 runs off the duo of Elmer Dessens, who has me rolling my eyes over the fact he’s even on the roster in the first place, and Sean Green, who has me feeling disappointed because it seems as if he’s all but gone back to his old ways of being lousy. His past 3 outings, he’s given up 5 runs in just 2 innings! Not good, again… Combine all this with a huge 5 hit night for Brett Gardner and an absolutely lights out performance by Yankee starter CC Sabathia, and it was a long night for our hometown boys. There’s not much more you can say about this one. It was an ugly and forgettable game for us. I think it would serve our infield well if tomorrow prior to game time they take some extra extra fielding practice, especially on the throwing aspect since 2 of the 3 errors were awry throws. Then just go out tomorrow and play the high level of baseball the Mets are totally capable of playing against AJ Burnett and the cross-town rival Yankees. What do you guys have to say though? Any lingering concern over Mike Pelfrey? Think Sean Green is reverting to his old stinky ways? Let me hear from you, your commentary, critique and opinions are most welcome at my blog here. Fire away friends!
