Hello fans, how is everything today? As I’m sure you know, tomorrow marks the beginning of the Grapefruit League season. The training wheels are finally off. The Mets are either ready to take 2010 by storm, or they’re ready to fizzle out and skulk at the NL East’s cellar. And the fate of this season’s Mets team largely hinges on whether or not the players injured during 2009 will bounce back and have big years. Including Jose Reyes. Matter of fact, especially Jose Reyes. I’m sure Jose is ready and excited to get back onto a major league baseball diamond. However, not everything happens to be "hunky-dory" in Jose’s world
Yesterday it was reported that Reyes received a visit from a couple of federal investigators last week. The reason for this unscheduled visit was because in September, Reyes took a trip up to Toronto to meet with Dr. Anthony Galea, a man facing criminal charges in his home country of Canada for dabbling with unapproved drugs. He is also facing charges here in the States for possessing the MLB-banned drug HGH while crossing the border. In other words, this guy is a loser, and I hope we never again hear any stories of Reyes dealing with him. But anyway, Reyes was questioned about his doings while up in Toronto, specifically regarding whether or not he took HGH from Galea.
Reyes said he didn’t, and said all Galea did was "…[take] my blood out, put it in some machines, spin it out and put it back in my leg." Well…I hope so. It sounds like Reyes is pretty sure he’s in no trouble and did absolutely nothing wrong. 99% of me believes that. However, you never know, there’s always that possibility. Ever since this surfaced yesterday, I’ve been doing a wee bit of thinking, and here is what I’ve come up with.
It does bother me a little bit that Reyes had to go through this ordeal. No matter what people say, it’s a distraction. And with for a team that’s a magnet for controversies, this really isn’t something we need on the heels of a brand new clean slate. That said, Reyes visited the guy in September, and Galea didn’t come under investigation until December. Also, this blood-spinning process is what this guy is known for, what he’s best at. Many other athletes have gone to Galea for this treatment, including Tiger Woods, who responded very well to the treatment. I really believe this will be one of those "much ado about nothing" situations. I honestly do. However in the back of my head, I can’t help wonder if Reyes maybe did try some HGH, with all the pressure of returning, bouncing back, New York media, leading a team that was a joke last season. In no way am I saying Reyes went there. But I’m a human, and I can’t help but wonder…
What do you guys think? Did you ever think Reyes may have sampled some HGH to help speed up his recovery and to get ready for the 2010 season? Or do you believe him when he said he did nothing wrong? Submit your opinions below, and as always fans and friends, thank you for stopping by!
