It must have been a slow news day for the New York Post to run "Whip it! I was a dominatrix in Midtown Manhattan" (Susannah Cahalan — February 21) as their Sunday front page headline. Even more surprising was that a dominatrix can earn $200 per hour without obtaining a license from the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs. No visits from the Department of Taxation to insure taxes are being collected on each "transaction" with clients? No visits from the Department of Health to insure safe sex is practiced by all?
What consenting adults consume, inhale, perform, read or view in the privacy of their own home, private social club or dungeon isn’t the concern of government. Individual economic and civil liberties prosper best when government stays out of both the bedroom and marketplace.
Interesting that all of these jobs were created without any Stimulus funds from Uncle Sam. Now that the New York Post has blown the lid off of one of the last bastions of free enterprise, you can be sure all of this will change. Perhaps members of our New York City Council, State Legislature and Congress need a visit to knock some sense into them!
