Thousands of dances have stirred the hearts and souls of generations but none with more passion, and power than Flamenco. The American Bolero Dance Company has created musical sparks that ignite the imagination with the swirls, twirls and emotions of this centuries old Spanish phenomenon.
Gabriela Granados is the executive director and founder of the troupe. At their April performance the Centro Espanol’s auditorium was transformed into a large cabaret, with tables, tapas (snacks) and sangria (red wine punch).
What is it that makes Flamenco so irresistible? I can only describe it as if it were a battle of proud peacocks vying for the most desirable mate. The haughtiness, intense stares, pounding feet and shouts of approval bring forth an intensity that is palpable.
But don’t take my word for it. The troupe will be back the first Friday in May.
