It was a glorious weekend on two levels. One it was my husband Stu’s birthday and all four of his children were gathering in Sarasota, Florida to celebrate their dad and their brother’s new baby, Jillian. The second part was that Stu had for the past year thought he was a year older! So suddenly he gained a year.
We froze on Saturday as did everyone in New York, but by Sunday going south had paid off. By the afternoon the sun warmed us and it was a beach day to enjoy the Gulf of Mexico’s gentle waves. The beaches in Sarasota are talcum powder soft, free of shells and weeds so it’s terrific walking shoeless along the long beach.
We stayed at the Lido Beach Resort, a short distance from famous St. Armands Circle shopping district. It runs with shop after shop in a handsome circle around stunningly-tall palm trees in the center. At night it’s a bustling street with people dining alfresco and stores open late into the evening.
The baby is only two months old and has a perfect disposition and personality. We took her to Ruth Chris for our celebratory dinner and she slept soundly for the three hours we were there. Her mom, Hilary, took these wonderful photos that inspired me to add captions to her expressive face. Enjoy!
