Man dies after scaffolding fall

A Jackson Heights man died after he fell 40 feet from the scaffolding of a building in West Harlem on Friday, February 5.

According to the police department, Jozef Wilk, 51, was working on the third floor exterior of a building owned by Columbia University, located 603 West 129th Street, before he fell.

When officers responded to the scene around 2:06 p.m., they called upon the NYPD’s Emergency Services Unit, members of the Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services to help remove Wilk from an interior construction elevator shaft he had fallen into. The victim was in cardiac arrest was pronounced dead on arrival at St. Luke’s Hospital at 2:43 p.m.




No criminality is suspected at this time but the investigation is ongoing.
