Hollywood-by-the-Bay(side)

People in Bayside may have been puzzled by the incredibly brightly lit tow truck cruising slowly around their neighborhood recently. There is a simple explanation. “Every Day,” a feature film starring Liev Schreiber, Helen Hunt, Carla Gugino and Brian Dennehy is “in production” on locations around the city - in Manhattan and Bayside - for another two weeks. It’s due for release next year.

The drama, was written by Richard Levine, who has written episodes for TV shows “Nip/Tuck” and “JAG,” and marks his feature film directorial debut.

On Thursday night, November 6, scenes with “Ned” - Schreiber’s character - “driving” (up and down Northern Boulevard, the Cross Island Parkway and local streets near Crocheron Park) were being filmed into the wee hours.

If you ever wondered why the backgrounds in movie “driving scenes” look so much more realistic nowadays, here’s how they do it.

Queens was the “Hollywood” of the early film era and so many stars lived here that Bayside had its own “Actors’ Row.”

More and more film companies are coming back to where it all began - and the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting wants scenes like this to be an “everyday” occurrence.
