Former madam and city comptroller candidate Kristin Davis was arrested for selling prescription pills, officials announced on Tuesday, August 6.

City comptroller candidate and ex-madam Kristin Davis, who claimed to have provided prostitutes to one of her opponents in the race, former Governor Eliot Spitzer, has been arrested for selling prescription pills.

“As alleged, Kristin Davis sold dangerous and highly addictive prescription pills to a known drug dealer on repeated occasions in exchange for cash,” said Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara. “Prescription drug abuse is the fastest-growing drug problem in this country, resulting in more overdose deaths than heroin and cocaine combined, and this office has a zero-tolerance policy toward anyone who helps to spread this plague at any level.”

Davis, 38, has been charged with four counts of distributing and possessing with intent to distribute a controlled substance. Each count carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

She was arrested as part of an ongoing investigation, according to officials, and sold the prescription pills on four different times in four months to an FBI cooperating witness.

Davis, 38, who spent time in jail for running her prostitution business and is running on the Libertarian ticket, is expected to appear this afternoon in Manhattan federal court.
