A day after his first All-Star appearance, R.A. Dickey got the movie star treatment appearing on the “Late Show” and even throwing David Letterman a couple of knuckleballs.

Letterman and Dickey discussed the unique pitch which the knuckleballer said is usually “born of desperation.”

“Are you squirting — excuse the expression — are you squirting the ball out? Or are you just letting it come out of the momentum?” the late-night host asked.

Dickey described the sensation of a great knuckler as more of a popping, “not necessarily like a squirting.”

The Mets pitcher told the “Late Show” host that his knuckleballs can vary anywhere between 59 and 82 mph.

“Usually it’s like that Bugs Bunny show where they swing three or four times and then it gets to the plate,” Dickey said of the slowest pitches.

After the interview, Dickey got in some throwing with Letterman taking position behind the plate.

“This is like anti-gravity,” Letterman said from his crouch.
