HONORS & AWARDS

Queens County Clerk Gloria D’Amico was honored at two different affairs recently. She was presented a gift on behalf of the Women’s Bar Association at one and the other affair, the Democratic Organization Annual Woman’s Luncheon, was held at Antun’s on Saturday, March 6.

Honoring Gloria D’Amico were the Honorable Jeremy Weinstein, Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown and Tracy Catapano-Fox at the Women’s Bar Association.

Surrounding Gloria D’Amico at the annual Democratic woman’s luncheon were U.S. Senator Kristin Gillibrand, District Leader Gloria DeMarco-Aloise, District Leader Ann Marie Anzalone, Queens County Clerk Gloria D’Amico and District Leader Yvonne Reddick. In front row, Congressmember Joseph Crowley and Assemblymember Margaret Markey turned out for D’Amico too.

Farrell Fritz, P.C. is pleased to announce that, on Friday, March 12, its trusts and estates partner, Ilene S. Cooper, received a special award from The Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Fund for her extraordinary efforts in promoting women’s health issues. Cooper, a Huntington resident, earned her J.D. degree from Hofstra University Law School and her B.A. degree from Cornell University.

ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS

The students from the School for Language and Communication Development (SLCD) showcased their works of art to a jam-packed crowd of more than 200 people at a special art exhibit at the JBS Gallery in Manhattan on Wednesday, March 3. “What a special night for our children, their parents and our supporters,” said Dr. Ellenmorris Tiegerman, founder and executive director of SLCD, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary. All proceeds from the art show will be used to increase awareness for children with language disorders and autism and benefit SLCD’s current programs and initiatives.

APPOINTMENTS

The Board of Trustees of Christ the King Regional High School is pleased to announce the appointment of Steven R. Giusto as assistant principal. He has worked at Christ the King for the past 22 years as a Spanish and Italian teacher, Foreign Language Chairperson, Music Department Coordinator, Coordinator of Student Activities and Director of Admissions. He will continue his responsibility for the Admissions Department.

Charles Foster has joined the Greater Allen Development Corporation (GADC) as its Chief Financial and Operations Officer. Foster will be responsible for the planning, directing and coordination of financial and operational activities under guidelines established by the CEO and the Board of Directors. GADC serves as a strategic and administrative umbrella for 15 for-profit and not-for-profit corporate entities.

Capital One Bank announced the appointment of three senior executives to serve as Market Presidents for the New York region. They are Queens Market President Giselle Cahalan, who also serves as the Branch Distribution Regional Manager; Suffolk County Market President Ellen Weber, who also serves as the Branch Distribution Regional Executive and Market President for Westchester and Rockland Counties in New York, and the State of Connecticut Rich Schnapper, who also serves as Group Sales Executive with the Small Business team. In addition to driving Capital One’s strategic business and customer service priorities, the newly named Market Presidents are responsible for leading the Bank’s community and philanthropic efforts to help meet the unique needs of the New York area.

CHARITY EVENTS

The Silly Dilly Band entertained the resident families at The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island (RMH-LI) on Sunday, February 28. “The band was very entertaining and the families had a wonderful time,” said RMH-LI executive director Joanne Reda. The band performed original songs, classics like “Old MacDonald Had a Farm” and even incorporated bilingual songs for those in attendance from other countries.
