You have to be registered to vote to participate in the general election on Tuesday, November 4. Now that the national conventions and local primaries are over and the party’s candidates have been selected there is still time to register to vote but it is up to you.
To register this year, you must be:

  • A citizen of the United States of America.
  • Eighteen years old by December 31 (you must be 18 by Election Day to vote.)
  • Live at your present address at least 30 days before the election.
  • Not in jail or on parole for a felony conviction.
  • Not registered to vote or claim the right to vote elsewhere.
You may register at the Board of Elections - in Queens it’s located at 126-06 Queens Boulevard in Kew Gardens - or any state agency participating in the National Voter Registration Act, on any business day throughout the year.
Your registration form must be delivered or mailed at least 25 days before the election for it to be effective for that contest. The application must be received no later than October 10.
    You have several options:
    1. Download and print the form from the web site. The form is available in English, Spanish, Chinese and Korean at http://www.vote.nyc.ny.us/register.html. If necessary, you can download the software needed to view it as well.
    2. Call the Phone Bank at 1-866-VOTE-NYC to order a postage-paid registration form in the mail.
    3. Forms are available from libraries, post offices and most New York City government agencies.
Once you have the form, fill it out in blue or black ink and sign it. Mail it to Board of Elections in the City of New York, 32 Broadway, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10004-1609.
