Seeking Volunteers
The American Red Cross in Greater New York (ARC/GNY) is seeking volunteers who can participate in the AmeriCorps National Preparedness and Response Corps (ANPRC) program that has been established to work from ARC/GNY headquarters in Manhattan.
The American Red Cross in Greater New York currently is seeking five AmeriCorps volunteers. Volunteers will actively participate in local and national responses to disasters, provide the community with education services and support volunteer recruitment. The assignment includes teaching disaster planning and emergency preparedness seminars, participating in community outreach programs and providing support for families affected by local emergencies.
The positions require a commitment of a 40-hour week, Monday-Friday. Minimum age is 18. A college degree and significant work experience is desired. A stipend and an educational award grant are provided upon successful completion of the assignment. Help Improve Education
Do you want to help improve the reading skills of students in our community? The St. Paul After- School Education Program, which is free to the student and parent, is looking for literacy and reading volunteers to tutor youth in grades one to seven.
The program features small classes, a state-of- the-art library, computer lab, music lessons, leadership and conflict resolution seminars, travel stipends, and in-service teacher/tutor orientation. It meets Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
3-6 p.m. (holidays excluded) at 173-01 108th Avenue, Jamaica (three blocks north of Merrick Boulevard). If interested, call 718-523-5570 and ask for B. Edwards.
