Organizes community music and poetry
nights throughout the neighborhood

JOB: Known throughout the neighborhood as “The Mayor of Kew Gardens,” Aaron Adler is retired, but he has not stopped working for the community. For the past three years, Adler has been organizing poetry readings and music performances at restaurants and other locations throughout the area in order to give residents the opportunity to display their talents and provide a night of entertainment for the community.
FAMILY: Adler has two daughters and three grandchildren who live in the New York area.
INSPIRATION: Years ago, Adler recognized that some poetry nights taking place throughout the area were not well attended and somewhat boring so he wanted to try to make it more interesting. “I love music,” Adler said. “I go back to the old bands, the big band era.” In addition, to his love for music, Adler said he has always enjoyed writing poetry.
PROUDEST MOMENTS: Adler said that his proudest moment was when he had all three of his grandchildren in the audience for a performance he organized. He also recalls fondly when his daughter surprised him by performing at one of the shows he organized.
GOALS: As the music and poetry nights continue to gain in popularity (currently taking place about every two months), Adler hopes to continue to organize the community nights providing a diverse mix of music and poetry.
