J.D. Opticians win Major Division title
J.D. Opticians won the Major Division title, beating Giardino Restaurant, two games to one. Travis Lippert won his second game of the finals, holding Giardino Restaurant to four runs over six innings in game 3. Lippert also struck out 29 of the 36 batters he faced in the two games he pitched and went 7-for-9 at the plate, with three walks. J.D. Opticians was led by Marlon Burroughs, who had five hits and played great defense at third base; Joe Totino and Dean Rodriguez had four hits apiece and Anthony Curatola went 6-for-6.
Softball
Freddy's Pizza edges Super Mix Music for title
Freddy’s Pizza went from worst to first, winning eight of their final 10 games, and beating Super Mix Music, 3-2, to win the girls Major Division softball title. Dana Kettering struck out a season-high 12 for the win. Jill Delaney had two hits and a key RBI, and Alexa Depperman added a triple and double.
RGMVM Little League
RGMVM continues to roll
The RGMVM Majors Division tournament team improved its record to 3-0 with a 3-0 victory over Rockaway Little League. Ken Sumsky led of the game with a single and scored on Sal Ciccone's two-run homer. Patrick O'Reilly's homer plated the game's final run.
It was more than enough support for Marco Martino, who needed just 77 pitches to go the distance for the complete-game victory, striking out eight and allowing just three singles. These two teams will meet again to decide who will be the District 27 champion.
